Lab Services

Newberry Health is home to a top-quality laboratory. The lab is accredited by the College of American Pathologists. Certification includes a very stringent inspection process of all departments in the laboratory. Our laboratory has been continuously accredited since 1983. Certification from the College of American Pathologists is internationally recognized as the benchmark of excellence for medical laboratories.

For most laboratory tests, no appointment is necessary; however, we do suggest that patients make an appointment by calling 803.407.7122. Special arrangements can be made for weekend testing. Please be sure to bring your physician's order for all testing.

General Services

The Newberry Health laboratory provides full inpatient and outpatient services, including clinical lab and surgical pathology services. All pre-surgical testing can be done for surgery at Newberry Health as well as for surgery at other hospitals.

Any physician-ordered outpatient test, including glucose, hemoglobin, prothrombin time (blood thinner), pregnancy, cholesterol, and wellness screens are also available to the community.

Lab Testing for Industry

Fasting Before Tests

Many lab tests require that you fast prior to the test. This means that you can’t eat any food or drink for 12 hours prior to your appointment for your test. An exception can be made for a small amount of water if necessary for taking medication. Please call the lab at 803.405.7420 if you have any questions regarding your test requirements.
