Newberry Health’s roots stretch back to the founding of Newberry County Hospital in 1925, later renamed Newberry County Memorial Hospital, and has grown into one of South Carolina’s most respected independent community hospitals. Throughout a century of service, we have adapted to meet the needs of our community and the evolving healthcare landscape. The leadership, board members, staff, medical staff, and stakeholders continue in our rich tradition of expanding services and enhancing access to care, positioning Newberry Health as the community's preferred healthcare provider.
Recognizing that its mission had grown and would continue to grow beyond hospitals walls, the board approved a new name – Newberry Health – to be the umbrella organization encompassing the hospital, outpatient clinics, specialty labs and services, and facilities throughout the county. While our 90-bed hospital remains the heart of our organization, Newberry Health is now a comprehensive health system, delivering exceptional care with the same personal touch that has always defined us.

As a rural health system, we are large enough to offer state-of-the-art facilities, advanced equipment, and expert staff, yet small enough to offer the individualized care that truly makes a difference in our patients' lives. As an independent system, we also have the flexibility to collaborate with other hospitals and healthcare providers, giving our community access to the specialty services they need.

Our Community
Newberry County is a progressive, largely rural area with a sense of history, a feeling of community, and the stability of deeply established roots. In Newberry, you can enjoy the friendliness and security of a smaller community, while living just 30 minutes to one hour from the urban centers of Columbia, Greenville and Spartanburg. As part of Lake Murray’s four-county region, Newberry offers outstanding outdoor recreation and it is fairly equidistant to South Carolina’s mountains and beaches.
